65 km from Chernihiv on the Mena-river there is located eponymous district center. On a par with the town of Romny Mena is considered the first center in Ukraine where in the early XVII century tobacco began to be grown. And the first mentioning in chronicles about settlement dates back to 1066. In ancient times there existed a significant trade center and, possibly, from the word “change” (MENYATY in native language) settlement received its present name.
The history of Mena can be revealed at local museum. And present-day Mena is well-known for its mineral springs and local health resort «Ostrech».

And absolutely unique for this small town is that it is the only district center in Ukraine that can boast of the zoo. In 2007 the zoo celebrated its 30 th anniversary.
